Crowned for Impact: Esther Chizaram Otuonye Receives the Sispiration SHERO Award

Esther Chizaram Otuonye, Miss One Nigeria 2025, has proved to us that modern pageantry is a platform for social change. She has been honoured with the prestigious Sispiration SHERO Award, recognising her outstanding advocacy and leadership in the fight against period poverty in Nigeria.

A queen whose crown is anchored in cause, Esther exemplifies the modern African woman who leverages visibility, influence, and voice to drive meaningful impact across communities.

Championing the SHERO Campaign Against Period Poverty

At the forefront of the SHERO Campaign Against Period Poverty, Esther mobilised awareness, inspired grassroots action, and demonstrated that true beauty lies in impact, advocacy, and service.

The nationwide campaign, championed by Miss One Nigeria semifinalists, sought to raise awareness and drive tangible action across states, addressing menstrual health challenges faced by girls and women.

Within just 30 days, Esther raised approximately $1,000, emerging as the highest donor in the campaign. Her achievement highlighted her commitment to grassroots advocacy and her ability to translate purpose into action.

Recipient of the Social Impact Award

Esther’s dedication earned her the title of SHERO Queen, recognising her leadership in mobilising resources and awareness for menstrual health advocacy. Her work underscored the power of young women leaders to influence policy, communities, and public discourse on critical social issues.

Recognised by Sispiration Magazine

Her impact was further recognised by Sispiration Magazine, Africa’s first social impact magazine, with the SHERO Award presented by Oyebola Oyedele, Publisher of Sispiration.

The SHERO Award celebrates women who embody leadership, service, and purpose-driven advocacy, aligning with Sispiration’s mission to spotlight women shaping Africa’s social impact landscape.

Beyond Beauty: Advocacy That Matters

Esther Chizaram Otuonye’s story reflects the core philosophy of Miss One Nigeria, a platform that seeks women who are not only beautiful but also visionary, empathetic, and committed to social change.

Why Period Poverty Matters

Period poverty remains a silent barrier affecting millions of girls and women across Africa. It denies them dignity, education, and opportunity, reinforcing cycles of inequality.

Ending period poverty requires:

  • Awareness and education
  • Empathy-driven policies
  • Access to menstrual products
  • Collective action from governments, communities, and private sector stakeholders

Through her advocacy, Esther continues to amplify this urgent conversation and inspire action toward menstrual equity.
