NAEC 2025: Sterling Oil Spotlights Green Transition – Turning Sustainability Promises to Measurable Action in Nigeria

90 PERCENT FLEET AND EQUIPMENT CONVERSION TO COMPRESSED NATURAL GAS (CNG).

25 PERCENT REDUCTION OPERATIONS EMISSIONS.

OVER 10,000 TREES PLANTED IN HOST COMMUNITIES.

THE NUMBERS TELL THE STORY OF SEEPCO’S SUSTAINABILITY JOURNEY; ROOTED IN MEASURABLE IMPACT, NOT RHETORIC.

These disclosures were  made at the Association of Energy Correspondents of Nigeria (NAEC) 2025 Annual Conference held today in Lagos. by Dr. Chris Offokansi, Head of Human Resources and Industrial Relations, who represented Sterling Oil Exploration and Energy Production Company (SEEPCO), one of Nigeria’s leading indigenous upstream oil exploration companies.

Delivering a compelling address, Dr. Chris Offokansi revealed that over 90% of SEEPCO’s vehicle and equipment fleet now operate on compressed natural gas (CNG), a bold switch that the company reports has already achieved a 25% reduction in overall emissions from its operations.

Addressing an elite audience of industry heavyweights, Dr. Offokansi affirmed that SEEPCO has upgraded its barges with structural enhancements to better protect Nigeria’s waterways from pollution or accidental spills. He also outlined the firm’s intensifying green footprint: robust waste management systems, water conservation regimes, and a tree-planting initiative surpassing 10,000 seedlings in host communities.

Offokansi, an environment and sustainability expert, clarified that these figures are not mere milestones but represent SEEPCO’s commitment to acting with accountability.

“We measure success not only by growth, but by the positive impact we create for people, communities, and the environment,” he remarked.

“Overseeing Human Resources & Industrial Relations at SEEPCO, I am focused on ensuring that our people thrive, our host communities feel valued, and our operations remain aligned with the highest environmental and social standards. We believe progress must go hand-in-hand with protecting human rights, advancing inclusion, and working transparently with regulators and stakeholders”, Offokansi stated.

During his address, he thanked NAEC and expressed the company’s aim to deepen partnerships and push sustainable innovation across Nigeria’s energy landscape.

In recent times, SEEPCO has undertaken to write its own corporate narrative, matched by public validation; focused on delivering impactful sustainability initiatives, not just as statutory obligations but as a new thinking to ensure increased impact across various sectors.

SEEPCO’s appearance at the NAEC Conference and its disclosures, anchored in rigorous metrics, community inclusion, and transparent governance, indicate a bold shift from corporate speak to practice; deepening its contributions to Nigeria’s energy transition journey.
